Drink your Hair Healthy
‘You are what you eat’, and surely that extends to what your drink as well.
That’s why we’re loving the latest trend for salons offering super healthy, benefit-packed juices, to sip on while hairstylist gets to work. These hair-healthy drinks contain an abundance of ingredients that work to improve the health of your hair from the inside out.
We’ve hunted down the best juices on offer and, because we’re feeling extra generous, we’ve even included the recipes, so you can make your own at home in between appointments.
Mayfair salon FOUR London has worked with juice expert Katia Philips to create four different hair juices, designed to nourish hair from the inside out. The four juices each target a different hair concern: Strengthen, Protect, Shine and our personal favourite, Growth.
Make Your Own: Spinach, watercress, fennel, apple, cucumber and burdock tincture
Hair Benefits: If you can get over the slightly scary green colour, this juice not only delicious, but also comes packed with a whole host of benefits. Your scalp will thank you for the burdock tincture – a powerful ingredient that tackles dandruff, hair loss and itching. The Vitamin K in the dark leafy greens with prevent thinning and help keep your hair generally healthy, whilst thecucumber adds that extra touch of TLC and nourishment.
Formula37 at Josh Wood Atelier
Hairdresser to the stars, Josh Wood offers a range of juices and smoothies in his West London salon, with healthy hair at the heart of each recipe. The latest liquid offering from the salon is the Formula37 – a smoothie that combines Josh’s hair health wish-list and The Atelier’s chef, Charlton’s gastronical know-how. It looks good, it tastes good and most importantly, it does good.
Make your own: Oat Milk, Coconut Flesh, Green Tea, Pumpkin Seed, Walnut, Kiwi, Pineapple, Acai Berry, Sarsaparilla Root, Horsetail Root, Korean Ginseng, Wheat Grass, Vanilla Bean.
Hair Benefits: Whilst working wonders for the hair, this smoothie also goes above and beyond with other health benefits. Containing Vitamin K, the drink is designed to strengthen the bones. Wonder mineral silica will promote hair growth and increase white blood cells, which will in turn form stronger bones and teeth by increasing calcium absorption.
Biotin Booster at Neville
Neville Salon offers an impressive menu of juices including: Shine On, Good Hair Day, Healthy Hair Growth and possibly the most powerful of the lot, the Biotin Booster.
Make your Own: Shot of wheatgrass juice, cucumber, spinach, almonds and apples.
Hair Benefits: The ingredients may be less fruitier than some of the other juices, but Biotin Booster sure packs a punch when it comes to hair health. The wheatgrass juice contains protein, vitamin E and other nutrients that can help repair dry, brittle or damaged hair. The pantothenic acid in the cucumber and the beta-carotene in the spinach will promote healthy hair development. Almonds are rich in natural biotin, a hair strengthener that will make strands less prone to breakage and split ends.
Instant Energizer at Hari’s
At Hari’s salon, you can enjoy a range of refreshing and delicious juices from their famous Juice Bar. There’s a long menu of juices that are made to order and super fresh, bursting with vitamins and mineralsthat will give your hair that extra boost of glossiness and vitality. Which to try? Our vote goes to the Instant Energizer.
Make your own: Carrot, Apple and Ginger
Hair Benefits: The key ingredient in this juicy concoction is the ginger. Known for its stimulating qualities, ginger can speed up hair growth, (great if you’re trying to grow out a fringe or wave goodbye to that bob!) But it’s benefits don’t stop there: traditionally, ginger has been used to protect and condition hair, reduce dandruff and prevent hair loss.
Jus De L’Atelier at Josh Wood Atelier Liberty
Following the success of his original West London salon, Josh Wood recently opened up shop in London’s Liberty department store and of course, his juices came with him. A firm favourite is Jus De L’Atelier, formulated especially for the salon by Radiance Cleanse to promote hair health.
Make your own: Carrots, beetroot, parsley, cucumber and orange.
Hair Benefits: In hair terms, cucumber is rich in silica, a mineral that will strengthen the hair fibres and the orange, beetroot and parsley combination provide a big helping of Vitamin C, which holds antioxidant properties that prevent hair loss.
