It’s all There in Black & White

L'essence de Beyonce.

Beyonce and her inspiring words in living colour.
“You don’t make a photograph just with a camera. You bring to the act of photography all the pictures you have seen, the books you have read, the music you have heard, the people you have loved.” -Ansel Adams

“When you photograph people in color, you photograph their clothes. But when you photograph people in Black and white, you photograph their souls!” -Ted Grant

This is Beyonce as many have never seen. A raw and luminous soul.  What’s amazing about photographs is that they capture a moment that’s gone forever and it’s impossible to reproduce. A picture is a secret about a secret, the more it tells you the less you know. We love her talent and beauty but there is an aspect of her that can not be defined, an essence I feel, these black and whites have captured.

“All photographs are memento mori. To take a photograph is to participate in another person’s (or thing’s) mortality, vulnerability, mutability. Precisely by slicing out this moment and freezing it, all photographs testify to time’s relentless melt.”-Susan Sontag

“With a lot of success comes a lot of negativity.”

“I’m learning how to drown out the constant noise that is such an inseparable part of my life. I don’t have to prove anything to anyone, I only have to follow my heart and concentrate on what I want to say to the world. I run my world.”

“That word can be very extreme… But I guess I am a modern-day feminist. I do believe in equality. Why do you have to choose what type of woman you are? Why do you have to label yourself anything? I’m just a woman and I love being a woman. If you’re attractive then you can’t be sexy, and you can’t be intelligent? What is all of that?”

“Who I am on stage is very, very different to who I am in real life. But I don’t see that having a sexy image when you are on stage means that you don’t love God. No one knows what I’m really like from that. I like to walk around with bare feet and I don’t like to comb my hair. I’m always so glammed up and so diva on stage and that’s what they see. People don’t understand that… No one knows my personal relationship with God and it’s not up to me to prove that to anyone.”

“Thank God I found the GOOD in goodbye.”

‘I don’t feel like I have to please anyone. I feel free. I feel like I’m an adult. I’m grown. I can do what I want. I can say what I want. I can retire if I want. That’s why I’ve worked hard.’

‘We have to teach our boys the rules of equality and respect, so that as they grow up gender equality becomes a natural way of life. And we have to teach our girls that they can reach as high as humanly possible.’

“I love to see a young girl go out and grab the world by the lapels. Life’s a bitch. You’ve got to go out and kick ass.”-Maya Angelou
